Tuesday morning Findlay Automotive Group’s Subaru of Las Vegas presented checks for over $10,000 each to local charities Red Rock Search & Rescue redrocksar.org and SafeNest safenest.org as part of their Share the Love initiative. The event took place inside the dealership showroom. Members of both Red Rock Search & Rescue and SafeNest were in attendance to collect the checks to help fund the charities operating costs.
Findlay Automotive Group CFO Tyler Corder presented the check and spoke about SafeNest. “The work they do battling everything regarding domestic violence and victims. Sheltering people in secret locations to get them out of violent relationships, and counseling for abusers. It’s a tremendous organization.”
David Cummings, Commander / President of Red Rock Search and Rescue accepted the check for the organization, and spoke about their mission and current activities. “We are a Good Samaritan search and rescue team. We pick up missions after local agencies have stopped searching for them. Often it may take months, even years, but we eventually find who we are looking for, and provide answers for families. Now we are working on a lot of runaways, kids and human trafficking situations. We find these kids on the street before they get into the hands of people that traffic them. It’s a huge problem here.
Burton Hughes, General Manager of Subaru of Las Vegas said, “One of the things that really sets the Findlay Automotive Group apart, is being a family run organization that is locally based. Engaging with the community is what we do. I know the term giving back is popular, I don’t think that really describes the connection that we have. Subaru of Las Vegas and Findlay Automotive Group, with our community, we’re actually giving to ourselves. We’re doing what you would do for your own family, and that’s how we look at our involvement. Coming to work every day knowing that we can make a difference, not just helping people with their transportation needs, keeping their families safe in very good cars that last a long time. That’s a great thing, but knowing that we can engage. It’s not just once a year. The Share the Love is once a year, but every single month being involved in numerous charitable events, with charitable organizations. It’s who we are.”
Subaru’s Share the Love initiative took place from the end of November to the beginning of January. For every Subaru sold, $250 is donated to a local charity. Subaru customers designate how much to give to each charity, or to give the entire amount to the charity of their choice. This year $14,433 was given to Red Rock Search and Rescue, and $17,301 was given to SafeNest.
