Las Vegas Desert Dogs – Teacher of the Game

Las Vegas’ newest professional sports franchise, the Las Vegas Desert Dogs, launched their “Teacher of the Game” program to recognize outstanding teachers. In partnership with Findlay Subaru of Las Vegas, each Teacher of the Game winner receives a check of $1,000 for classroom purposes, VIP tickets’ to a Las Vegas Desert Dogs home game, and in-game recognition.

January Teacher of the Game Nomination is John Brugger and is being recognized at his school, Robreta C. Cartwright Elementary, on January 4th from 8:00 am – 9:00 am. If you are interested in joining for the presentation, please see or email Emily Villarreal ([email protected]).

“Mr. Brugger is the heart of Cartwright ES. His joy for his work is contagious. His students behave excellently and as the SBAC scores showed, his class did the best in all areas. This year, Mr. Brugger started a club in school for students and their parents. His Coyotes in Motion club has become a hub for student and community health and action. Parents, teachers, and students are observed every morning, walking on the field. The bonds that are created when parents and students walk together is amazing. This was all Mr. Brugger’s idea. In addition, Mr. Brugger is also the Student Council Advisor at Cartwright.

Mr. Brugger’s joy at work is such that others see him as a leader and they want to do what he is doing. During all observations, he has demonstrated to do his job to the best of his ability and his self-reflection skills are impeccable. Mr. Brugger does not consider himself the top teacher but the top learner in his class. He is humble with his students and provides them with great validation for what they bring to the class.

Through the Coyotes in Motion club, Mr. Brugger has managed to bring the community back into our school. These parents are beginning to feel more comfortable returning to school as volunteers. Through his taped announcements, Mr. Brugger ensures that all parents are well aware of what is happening in the school.”
